Description / Information:
A wonderful original example of a rare book. 46 wood engraved plates as called for. Presentation copy to Worthing Library with bookplate on verso of front board. One very small centrally placed library stamp on verso of title page. Pages are crisp with excellent crisp corners. All edges contemporary gold. Some generally light foxing to some pages but this does not generally affect the engravings themselves, which are in remarkably good clean condition. All but 2 plates retain their original tissue guards - the majority of which are clean and without creases! The text is in French and English and excerpts from Scripture are in Latin. Contemporary refurbished heavily decorated leather boards and spine (over marbled paper boards) are in bright condition overall - remarkable for there age - see photograph (please note the "flare" in the photograph depicts the boards as duller than is in fact the case). Gold patterns on refurbished original boards and spine clean and bright. Refurbished leather corners to boards. Contemporary spine has been re-laid down using sympathetic leather backing - very hard to notice unless you look very closely (see photograph). Buying more than one book will save on postage costs. We have split our books into 70 + categories.
