This was the personal copy of Wilfrid (Scawen) Blunt and bears his signature in pencil on the front free end paper. Poet and diplomat born 1840 and died 1922. Married to a descendent of Lord Byron, travelled widely on horseback through the Mid-East and lived in Cairo. Blunt opposed British rule in Egypt and was also in favour of Irish home rule. For the latter he even served a prison term. had an affair with Jane Morris, wife of William Morris and model of Gabriel Dante Rossetti. In good condition overall. Internally generally clean with a small red stain at the bottom of the pages for the first third of the book. This does not affect any of the text or the illustration. 99 lovely colour plates. Some light foxing, mainly to end papers but generally this does not affect the plates. Worn boards and faded spine. Repair to top of spine. Buying more than one book will save on postage costs.
