In very good condition overall. Contents in generally clean condition with wonderful illustrations. Slight foxing to some pages. Boards generally very good with few marks. Bright gold decoration. Spine has slight wear to head and foot but is otherwise very good. Eighth of May 1901. Additional information:Blue cloth with a floral decoration on the front board. William Robinson of Gravetye Manor was considered by many to be a most opinionated and forceful character! His Flower garden was the "gardening bible" of the period. It is am important work and jammed packed with information In this Eighth edition of 1901 Part one of 401 pages covers chapters on design, planting, the seasons etc and is very well illustrated with evocative wood engravings. Part 2 from pages 402 to 882 contains details of flowers, flowering shrubs, trees, ferns etc and includes useful notes on cultivation and positioning relative to planting in the UK.
